Creed, Herbst to Don Vintage Schemes for Darlington Off-Road Tribute
Vintage Liveries Adorn Team Penske Fords in Throwback to Off-Road Roots
Darlington Raceway will host a nostalgic weekend of racing as the NASCAR Cup Series and Xfinity Series pay homage to the sport’s off-road heritage. Two Team Penske drivers will embrace the throwback spirit by adorning their Fords with iconic liveries from off-road racing legends.
Ryan Creed’s Off-Road Inspiration
Ryan Creed, piloting the No. 3 Penske Ford, will pay tribute to his father, Ricky Creed, a renowned off-road racer. His Ford Mustang will sport the distinctive turquoise and black colors of the Pumpkin Eater, a legendary off-road truck driven by Ricky.
It’s an honor to represent my dad and off-road racing in this special throwback, said Creed. The ‘Pumpkin Eater’ is a symbol of hard work and determination, and I hope to carry that spirit into this weekend’s race.
Harrison Herbst’s Off-Road Adventure
Harrison Herbst, in the No. 12 Penske Ford, will pay homage to the Terrible Herbst, a Ford Bronco driven by the late Parnelli Jones in the Baja 1000. Featuring a vibrant orange and white scheme, the car will evoke memories of Jones’ legendary off-road exploits.
I’m thrilled to drive the ‘Terrible Herbst’ scheme at Darlington, said Herbst. Parnelli Jones was a pioneer in off-road racing, and it’s an incredible opportunity to celebrate his legacy.
The vintage liveries on Creed and Herbst’s Fords will not only commemorate off-road racing history but also highlight the versatility and heritage of the Ford brand. From the dirt tracks of off-road courses to the asphalt of NASCAR, Ford has left an indelible mark on motorsports history.
With the legendary Darlington Raceway as the backdrop, the throwback schemes are sure to captivate fans and evoke memories of the sport’s golden era.
Kind regards
