Clement’s Clutch Hit Caps Jays’ Comeback
Lourdes Gurriel Jr.’s 10th-inning single snapped a 5-5 tie and gave the Blue Jays a 6-5 comeback victory over the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night at Rogers Centre.
The Jays trailed 5-3 entering the bottom of the ninth, but Teoscar Hernandez tied the game with a two-run single off Rangers closer Joe Barlow.
In the 10th, Cavan Biggio led off with a single and moved to second on a groundout by Matt Chapman. Gurriel then lined a single to center field, scoring Biggio with the winning run.
The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for the Jays, who improved to 68-64 on the season.
Clement’s Big Night
Clement, who was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on Monday, went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, and three RBIs.
Clement’s home run, a solo shot off Rangers starter Dane Dunning, gave the Jays a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
Clement’s double, a two-run double off Rangers reliever Brock Burke, tied the game at 5-5 in the sixth inning.
Bullpen Struggles
The Jays’ bullpen struggled on Tuesday night, allowing five runs on eight hits in four innings.
Tim Mayza allowed two runs on three hits in the fifth inning, while Jordan Romano allowed three runs on four hits in the sixth.
Yimi Garcia pitched a scoreless seventh inning, and Bowden Francis pitched a scoreless eighth inning.
Next Up
The Jays will continue their series against the Rangers on Wednesday night at Rogers Centre. Kevin Gausman will start for the Jays, while Martin Perez will start for the Rangers.
