Clark Aims to Retain US PGA Title, Korda Seeks to Extend Victory Run
Clark Seeks to Defend at Hilton Head
Hannah Clark will aim to retain the US PGA Championship title when she returns to defend her crown at the venerable Ocean Course at Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Florida, from June 22-25.
The Englishwoman made history last year when she became the first player to win the US PGA Championship in her debut, and she will be hoping to continue her fine form in 2023.
Clark has been in excellent form in recent months, winning the ISPS Handa World Invitational in Northern Ireland in May and finishing runner-up in the Volunteers of America Classic in Texas in April.
She will be one of the favorites to lift the trophy again this year, but she will face a strong challenge from a field that includes world number one Nelly Korda, defending champion Lexi Thompson, and seven-time major winner Inbee Park.
Korda Looks to Extend Winning Streak
Nelly Korda will be looking to extend her winning streak to four tournaments when she tees off at the US PGA Championship.
The American has been in scintillating form in recent weeks, winning the LPGA Match-Play, the DIO Implant LA Open, and the Meijer LPGA Classic.
She will be the player to beat at Hilton Head, and she will be confident of adding to her major tally, which already includes the 2021 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and the 2022 AIG Women’s Open.
Thompson and Park Eye Back-to-Back Titles
Lexi Thompson and Inbee Park will also be in contention for the title. Thompson is the defending champion, while Park is a seven-time major winner.
Thompson has been in good form this season, winning the Aramco Team Series – Jeddah in March. Park, meanwhile, has not won a major since the 2016 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, but she remains one of the most consistent players in the world.
Other Contenders
Other players to watch at the US PGA Championship include:
* Lydia Ko: The former world number one is a two-time major winner and is always a threat in big events.
* Brooke Henderson: The Canadian is one of the most popular players on tour and is looking to add to her major tally, which includes the 2016 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
* Danielle Kang: The American is a two-time major winner and is always a contender in the biggest events.
* Minjee Lee: The Australian is the current world number two and is looking to win her first major championship.
Kind regards J. Hansen.
