Walker, a Shortstop from Georgia, Adds Depth to Cardinals Farm System
The St. Louis Cardinals selected shortstop Jordan Walker from the University of Georgia with the 21st overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft on Sunday night.
Impressive College Career
Walker, a 20-year-old native of Marietta, Georgia, put together an impressive college career with the Georgia Bulldogs. In the 2022 season, he batted .368 with 23 home runs and 62 RBIs in 59 games, leading the SEC in batting average, home runs, and RBIs.
Walker was named the SEC Player of the Year and a First Team All-American in 2022. He also helped lead the Bulldogs to the College World Series, where they finished as runners-up.
Scouting Report
Walker is a highly-touted prospect with a well-rounded skill set. He possesses above-average speed, fielding abilities, and a strong throwing arm. At the plate, he has a good eye and the ability to hit for power and contact.
Fit with Cardinals
Walker adds depth to the Cardinals farm system, which is already one of the best in baseball. He will likely start his professional career with the Palm Beach Cardinals, the Cardinals’ Class A-Advanced affiliate.
The Cardinals have a history of developing shortstops into successful major league players, including current starting shortstop Paul DeJong. Walker has the potential to be the next in a long line of Cardinals shortstops.
