Cardinals Select Graceffo, Bosiokovic
The St. Louis Cardinals selected right-handed pitcher Michael Graceffo and infielder Mateo Bosiokovic in the 2023 MLB Rule 5 Draft on Thursday.
Graceffo, 24, went 9-6 with a 4.14 ERA in 27 starts for Triple-A Jacksonville last season. He struck out 156 batters in 137 innings.
Bosiokovic, 22, hit .285 with 10 home runs and 57 RBIs in 121 games for Double-A Wichita last season. He also stole 20 bases.
Graceffo’s Value
Graceffo was originally selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 12th round of the 2019 MLB Draft. He has a fastball that can reach 97 mph and a plus slider. He also has a developing changeup.
Graceffo is expected to compete for a spot in the Cardinals’ bullpen in 2023.
Bosiokovic’s Versatility
Bosiokovic was originally signed by the Cardinals as an international free agent in 2019. He can play shortstop, second base, and third base. He has a good bat and is a good runner.
Bosiokovic is expected to be a utility infielder for the Cardinals in 2023.
Cardinals Designate Ingram
To make room for Graceffo and Bosiokovic on the 40-man roster, the Cardinals designated infielder Brendan Donovan for assignment.
Donovan, 26, hit .295 with 7 home runs and 41 RBIs in 129 games for the Cardinals last season. He also stole 20 bases.
Donovan is a versatile infielder who can play second base, third base, and shortstop. He is a good hitter with a good on-base percentage.
Donovan is expected to be claimed on waivers by another team.
