Cause of Fire Still Under Investigation
A house fire in Calgary’s Deer Run community caused extensive damage on Thursday evening. The blaze broke out at a home on Deer Ridge Drive S.E. around 7:30 p.m. and quickly spread, engulfing the entire structure.
Firefighters responded quickly and were able to contain the fire to the one residence. However, the house was extensively damaged, with the roof and walls collapsing. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
No Injuries Reported
Thankfully, no one was injured in the fire. The occupants of the home were able to escape safely before the flames took hold.
Community in Shock
The fire has left the Deer Run community in shock. The home was a well-known landmark in the neighborhood, and its destruction has been a devastating loss.
Support for Victims
The Calgary Fire Department is reminding residents to practice fire safety in their own homes. They recommend installing smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors, and having a fire escape plan in place.
The Red Cross is assisting the victims of the fire with emergency lodging, food, and clothing. The community is also rallying around the family, offering support and donations.
