The Denver Broncos have acquired defensive end Shaq Lawson from the New York Jets in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Jets announced Thursday.
About Shaq Lawson
Lawson, 27, was a first-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in 2016. He spent four seasons with the Bills before signing a one-year deal with the Jets in 2020.
Lawson has started 62 games in his career and has recorded 20.5 sacks, 67 tackles for loss, and 29 quarterback hits. He is a versatile player who can line up at either defensive end or defensive tackle.
Strengths
Lawson is a strong and physical player who is a good run defender. He is also a good pass rusher who can generate pressure on the quarterback.
Weaknesses
Lawson can be inconsistent at times and he is not the best coverage defender.
How Lawson Fits with the Broncos
Lawson is a good fit for the Broncos’ defense. He is a physical player who can help stop the run and generate pressure on the quarterback. The Broncos are a young team and Lawson will be a good mentor for the younger players on the defense.
He is expected to start at defensive end opposite Bradley Chubb.
Other News
In other news, the Broncos have also signed running back Melvin Gordon to a one-year deal.
Gordon, 29, was a Pro Bowl selection in 2018 and 2019. He has rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of the past four seasons.
The Broncos are hoping that Gordon can help them improve their running game. He is a versatile player who can run between the tackles and catch passes out of the backfield.
The Broncos are now preparing for their season opener against the Tennessee Titans on September 11.
Kind regards
Jim Brown.
