Turkey’s President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has expressed his sadness over the helicopter crash that killed 15 people, including Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s advisor.
Erdoğan offered his condolences to the Iranian people and government in a statement released by his office.
The helicopter crashed in southeastern Iran on Wednesday, killing 15 people, including Raisi’s advisor, Morteza Pouralizadeh. Raisi himself was not on board the helicopter.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Erdoğan’s statement said that he was deeply saddened by the news of the crash.
On behalf of the Turkish people, I extend my deepest condolences to the Iranian people and government for this tragic loss, the statement said.
Erdoğan also wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and the people of Iran during this difficult time, the statement said.
The Iranian government has declared three days of national mourning in the wake of the two crashes.
