$800 Million in Additional Security Assistance
United States to Provide Advanced Air Defense Systems and Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems
WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Biden today announced the immediate dispatch of $800 million in additional security assistance to Ukraine, bringing the total U.S. commitment to more than $1 billion in the past week and $15.2 billion since the beginning of the Biden Administration.
The new package includes:
- Two National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS)
- Four additional Counter-Artillery Radar Systems (CARS)
- Up to 150,000 rounds of 155mm artillery ammunition
- Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS)
The NASAMS are advanced medium-to-long-range air defense systems that will help Ukraine defend against Russian air attacks. The CARS will help Ukraine locate and target Russian artillery. The 155mm artillery ammunition will provide Ukraine with additional firepower to defend its territory. The C-UAS will help Ukraine defend against Russian drones.
“The United States is committed to providing Ukraine with the security assistance it needs to defend itself against Russian aggression,” said President Biden. “This new package of assistance will help Ukraine continue to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
The United States has been a leading provider of security assistance to Ukraine since 2014, when Russia first invaded Ukraine. The United States has provided Ukraine with a wide range of security assistance, including weapons, ammunition, training, and financial support.
