Training with Crawford, Andre Ward Targeting Saudi Return
A Return to the Ring
Andre Ward, the undefeated former light heavyweight and super middleweight champion, has been quietly preparing for a return to the ring. Ward has been training in Las Vegas with reigning WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford, and the two have been working on a new game plan for Ward’s comeback.
Ward has been out of the ring since 2017, when he defeated Sergey Kovalev to unify the light heavyweight titles. He retired from boxing shortly after that fight, citing injuries and a desire to spend more time with his family.
However, Ward has recently expressed a desire to return to the ring, and he has been working hard in the gym to get back into fighting shape. He has been sparring with Crawford, who is considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, and he has been impressed with Ward’s skills.
Andre is a special fighter, Crawford said. He’s got a great mind for boxing, and he’s very technical. He’s also a very hard worker, and he’s been putting in the time in the gym. I think he’s ready to make a comeback.
Targeting a Saudi Return
Ward is targeting a return to the ring in Saudi Arabia, where he fought Kovalev in 2017. He is hoping to fight in the country again in the summer of 2023.
I had a great experience fighting in Saudi Arabia, Ward said. The fans were amazing, and the atmosphere was electric. I would love to fight there again.
Ward is not yet sure who he will fight in his comeback fight, but he is confident that he will be ready for whoever he faces.
I’m not looking past anyone, Ward said. I’m just focused on getting back in the ring and putting on a great performance. I’m confident that I can beat anyone in the world.
