Witness Testifies on Impact of Halyna Hutchins’ Child at Scene
Analyst Questions Potential Bias and Emotional Factor
In the ongoing trial surrounding the fatal shooting on the Rust film set, a child psychology expert has testified on the potential impact of Alec Baldwin’s wife’s presence with their baby during his interview with investigators.
Dr. Robin Gurwitch, a clinical and forensic child psychologist, analyzed footage from the interview, in which Baldwin’s wife, Hilaria Baldwin, was present and holding their newborn daughter, Lucia.
According to Dr. Gurwitch, the presence of a newborn baby can have a significant emotional effect on a person, particularly a parent. She explained that the baby’s presence may have heightened Baldwin’s feelings of anxiety, stress, and vulnerability during the questioning.
Dr. Gurwitch also noted that the baby’s presence could have potentially influenced Baldwin’s nonverbal behavior. She suggested that he may have been more inclined to avoid eye contact, appear fidgety, or engage in self-soothing behaviors, such as holding the baby closer.
Defense Questions Analyst’s Interpretation
Defense attorneys for Baldwin questioned Dr. Gurwitch’s interpretation of the footage, arguing that she could not make definitive conclusions based on the limited observation. They contended that Baldwin’s behavior was not unusual or indicative of any emotional distress.
Prosecution Argues Relevance to Credibility
The prosecution, however, argued that Dr. Gurwitch’s testimony was relevant to assessing Baldwin’s credibility during the interview. They suggested that the emotional impact of his wife and baby’s presence may have influenced his responses and demeanor.
The jury is expected to continue deliberating on the case, which includes charges of involuntary manslaughter against Baldwin for the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
