China’s Qiuyang Yu has claimed the first gold medal of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, winning the women’s 10m air rifle event on day one of competition.
Yu, 21, shot a total of 251.8 points, setting a new Olympic record in the process. She finished ahead of Slovakia’s Zuzana Rehak Stefecekova, who took silver with 251.6 points, and Denmark’s Rikke Maeng, who won bronze with 232.9 points.
Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk Storms to Victory in Heavyweight Boxing
In the boxing ring, Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk made a stunning return to the Olympics, defeating Britain’s Joe Joyce to win the heavyweight gold medal.
Usyk, a former undisputed cruiserweight champion, showed his class throughout the bout, using his superior speed and footwork to outbox Joyce. He won by unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring the fight 117-111 in his favor.
